TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Florida State University student from Pompano Beach.
Andrew Coffey was found dead Friday morning after an off-campus fraternity party Thursday night in Tallahassee.
Tallahassee police arrived at the home on Buena Vista Drive shortly after 10:30 a.m. and found Coffey unresponsive.
"All attempts to revive the person were unsuccessful," Officer David Northway said.
Coffey was a pledge of the FSU Pi Kappa Phi chapter and a graduate of Pompano Beach Senior High School.
Dominic Potts, who went to high school with Coffey, said he remembers his classmate always having a "positive and warm spirit" and having a gift for "anything related to the mathematical and science area."
FSU has suspended the fraternity.
"We are overwhelmed with sadness, any time we learn of the death of one of our students, and the FSU family provides extensive outreach to their family and friends as they mourn the loss of a young life," Amy Hecht, FSU's vice president for student affairs, said in a statement.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tallahassee Police Department 850-891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 850-574-8477.
