DAVIE, Fla. – Two teenage girls remained at Broward Health Medical Center's intensive care unit Sunday after a teenage driver struck them in Davie.
The Davie Police Department identified them as Andrea De Las Salas and Alicia Cerrato. Sgt. Mark Leone said the girls, who suffered life-threatening injuries, were running.
According to Major Dale Engle the girls were crossing Southwest 136th Avenue on their way to the St. Bonaventure Family Festival when the driver of a 2004 Dodge Neon struck them.
"The impact caused one pedestrian to be thrown to the swale on the west side of the roadway and the other pedestrian was thrown into the northbound lane," Engle said in a statment.
Engle identified the driver as Daniel Jose Conrugedo, 18, and Leone said he remained at the scene and was cooperative.
