12-year-old boy struck by semi-truck in northwest Miami-Dade

Cameron Mills taken to JMH's Ryder Trauma Center

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 12-year-old boy was struck by a semi-truck Friday afternoon in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The crash was reported in the area of Northwest 32nd Avenue and 62nd Street.

Relatives told Local 10 News reporter Christian De La Rosa that Cameron Mills was crossing the street when he was struck.

"It looked like the truck was trying to pass over behind another truck to beat the traffic, and he wasn't even near the turning lane where my nephew was at," Cameron's uncle, Leron Lee, said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said Cameron was taken as a trauma alert to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene. The crash is under investigation and it's unclear whether the driver will be cited or face charges.
