7 cafeteria employees at Orchard Villa Elementary School taken to hospital

Employees complained of nausea, dizziness

MIAMI – Seven people were taken to a hospital Wednesday after complaining of nausea and dizziness at a Miami elementary school.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said several cafeteria employees at Orchard Villa Elementary School began complaining of similar symptoms.

Firefighters were called and a hazardous materials team inspected the cafeteria to make sure everything was OK.

Teachers were told to have students leave the cafeteria and return to their classrooms. Students who were in the cafeteria at the time were evaluated as a precaution and determined to be OK.

Carroll said eight adults were evaluated, and seven of them were taken to a hospital.

The cause of the illnesses remains under investigation.
