Toy grenade prompted Miami International Airport evacuation, police say

Detectives investigate source of toy in airport scare

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Miami-Dade Police Department detectives were investigating how a toy grenade got inside a restroom at Miami International Airport's Terminal J. 

The toy prompted an evacuation Saturday night, while the bomb squad examined the potential weapon. 

The incident at the South Terminal lasted for about two hours. Authorities were examining the surveillance video. 

The area of the airport serves 20 domestic and international carriers including Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, Avianca, Bahamasair, Caribbean Airlines, Copa, Delta, GOL, IBC Airways, LAN, Lufthansa, Swiss, TAM and United.
