HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A crocodile was spotted Monday morning on the beach in Hollywood.
Sky 10 was above the scene as the crocodile was motionless on the sand. Waves were crashing over the reptile.
A large crowd gathered on the beach near Surf Road and Hayes Street to watch the motionless crocodile from behind police tape.
Hollywood police officers were standing nearby.
"Right now, we're just keeping everyone away from the shore as much as possible, for their safety, as well as the crocodile," Officer Christian Lata said.
Eventually, the crocodile walked back towards the ocean and seemed to soak up the salt water.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and a trapper later arrived and captured the crocodile.
"It will be evaluated, tagged and released into a suitable mangrove habitat," FWC spokesman Rob Klepper said in a statement.
