2 Miami-Dade inmates charged with assaulting fellow detainee

MIAMI – Two inmates at Miami-Dade County's Pre-Trial Detention Center have been charged with attacking a fellow detainee.

According to court documents, Ronald Brunson, 20, and Billy Lee Worthy, 22, got into an argument with 37-year-old Byron Mitchell just after midnight on Thursday. A few minutes later, Brunson and Worthy attacked Mitchell, kicking, punching and pushing him to the floor, the documents said.

Video from Miami-Dade police officers wearing body camera was used to confirm the attack and Mitchell agreed to press charges.

Before the attack, the three men were being held at the detention center awaiting trials on other charges. In addition to the assault charges, Brunson is accused of lewd or lascivious exhibition while Worthy is accused of armed robbery and carjacking. 

Mitchell is charged with attempted murder. Police said he attacked his roommate, Danielle Jones, on Valentine's Day 2016. Jones, who met Mitchell through a Craigslist ad, spent 24 days in a coma after the attack.
