BSO identifies boy who collapsed during PE class at Somerset Academy, died

Family wants to know what happened to 14-year-old Kamarr Scott

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy who died Thursday after he collapsed during P.E. class at Somerset Academy in Wilton Manors has been identified.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter on Friday identified the boy as Kamarr Scott.

Carter said the seventh-grade student was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Local 10 News spoke to Kamarr's family members Friday.

"Why was he doing extra laps? Was it for a punishment?" Kamarr's uncle, Mardoche Frederick, asked. "What was the punishment for?"

Family members said they stopped by the school Friday morning, hoping to learn more about what happened to Kamarr. They said they're still wondering.

Students told Local 10 they saw a teacher performing CPR on Kamarr until paramedics took over.

Kamarr's family members said he was an active 14-year-old boy who didn't have anything wrong with him.

Somerset Academy principal Anthony Marucci said the school would be providing counseling to students and staff.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
