DAVIE, Fla. – Two men were captured on surveillance cameras in October trying to steal a woman's purse from a shopping cart at a TJ Maxx store in Davie while she was distracted, authorities said.
The incident was reported Oct. 28 at the TJ Maxx at 2040 S. University Drive.
Surveillance video released Wednesday shows one of the men trying to distract the woman as the other crawled under a rack of clothes and tried to pull the woman's cart closer to him as she browsed another rack.
Police said the men were unsuccessful in stealing the woman's purse, but were able to get away with another woman's wallet that had also been placed inside a shopping cart in another section of the store.
Police said the theft was not captured on camera.
Police warn people to be extra vigilant during the holiday shopping season.
Woman are encouraged to wear their purses in front of their bodies across their shoulders and should never place their purses or cellphones in the upper basket of a shopping cart, authorities said.
