DAVIE, Fla. – Surveillance video was released Wednesday that shows the moment a red car crashed into a Pollo Tropical restaurant in Davie.
The video shows the Toyota Matrix first being clipped by a black Mercedes-Benz E 550. Police said the driver of the Mercedes had ran a stop sign.
The driver of the Matrix lost control of the car, driving over a median and into the Pollo Tropical at the Lakeside Town Shops at 5780 S. University Dr.
Zamara Gonzales was seated at a booth by the window of the restaurant and was trapped under the Toyota for about 15 minutes.
"I mean, everyone was just trying to get a grip on it and lift it. The floor was pretty wet, so no one could really move without slipping," a witness said.
Gonzalez was given chest compressions by paramedics and was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Authorities said the flying debris injured Steve Pierre and a 7-year-old boy.
Pierre was expected to be fine, but the boy suffered a lacerated liver, broken rib and a pulmonary hematoma. Doctors expect him to survive his injuries.
The Davie Police Department identified the driver of the 2008 Toyota as Jesus Bisball and the driver of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz as Stacy Masik-Mahaffy.
