7-year-old girl bitten on face by dog in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities say

Victim taken to Nicklaus Children's Hospital

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 7-year-old girl was bitten on the face by a dog Tuesday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The incident was reported at a home at 5055 SW 99th Ave.

Sky 10 was above the scene shortly after 5 p.m. as the dog was restrained on a leash that was tied to the fence. Police and Miami-Dade Animal Services officials were nearby.

Authorities said the girl was playing in her yard when the dog attacked her.

"The little girl screamed, the dog barked and made a growling noise, and then the little girl screamed again. I mean loud," James Young, who lives in the neighborhood, said. "And then like 10 minutes later, Fire Rescue came. They put bandages on her and they actually took her out of the yard and closed the gate to get away from the dog because it was still running loose."

Neighbors told Local 10 News that the family just moved in to the home about two months ago.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the victim was taken by ambulance to Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Her condition was not immediately released.

The dog is expected to be removed by Miami-Dade Animal Services, but it's unclear whether it will be euthanized.
