1 dead, another wounded in shooting outside Miami crisis center

Police identify man killed in shooting as Alfonso Artice

MIAMI – One man was killed and another was wounded Sunday in a shooting outside of Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital, police said.

Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said the shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue.

Fallat said both victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, just blocks away from the shooting site.

Alfonso Artice, 30, was identified by police as the man who died. The surviving victim is listed in stable condition.

Several people called 911 after hearing gunshots, Fallat said.

One witness, who did not want to be identified, said he saw the gunman running away after the shooting.

"I thought it was firecrackers, but it was real gunfire," the witness said.

It was unclear whether the shooting was connected to the crisis center.

"We do know the two persons were standing outside when they were just shot at," Falllat said. "We don't know if it was a drive-by, if someone just walked up to them or if it was a robbery. We don't know."

Fallat said officers were still investigating and have not yet determined a motive.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
