PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Opa-locka and Florida City were among the National Council for Home Safety and Security's top 100 list of most dangerous cities in the U.S.
The city of Opa-locka came in third, while Florida City was right behind it in fourth place.
East St. Louis, Illinois, topped the list as No. 1, while Darby Borough, Pennsylvania, came in second.
Four Florida cities cracked the top 25, second only behind Michigan with six. However, there were only nine Michigan cities in the top 100, compared to 11 in Florida.
In addition to Opa-locka and Florida City, other Florida cities to make the list were Cocoa at No. 11, Belle Glade at No. 17, Lake City at No. 37, Homestead at No. 41, Riviera Beach at No. 51, Daytona Beach at No. 72, Lake Worth at No. 85, Miami at No. 94 and Fort Pierce at No. 95.
Four of the cities -- Opa-locka, Florida City, Homestead and Miami -- were located in Miami-Dade County. That was the most of any county in the state.
Palm Beach County had the second-most cities on the list.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security compiled the list using the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting database and crime reports downloaded for 2010-2014, which are the most recent years available.
According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security, the database is restricted to agencies that serve at least 10,000 people.
