Shot fired during fight inside Pembroke Lakes Mall, police say

Man holding child falls during struggle for gun at Sears, police say

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Joel Bailey was holding a child when a fight involving his handgun ensued with two 20-year-old men inside the Sears at the Pembroke Lakes Mall Friday, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department. 

Bailey, 22, fell to the ground, as he struggled with Andrew Chin, 20, who emerged with the firearm, police said.

"During the struggle, a single and unintended discharge occurred," Sgt. Adam Feiner, a spokesman for the Pembroke Pines Police Department wrote in a statement. 

Feiner said the single gun-shot fragmented into the tile floor injuring Bailey and Chin. Bailey suffered a minor injury to his lip and Chin hurt his left, lower leg, police said. 

Chin and Shanease Clarke, 20, took off running from the store at 12055 Pines Blvd., but they later reported the incident to law enforcement. 

"All suspects are known to one another, and share an unfavorable history with each other," Feiner said. 

Officers arrested Chin, Clarke and Bailey. Chin faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and disorderly conduct. Clarke faces a charge of battery and disorderly conduct. Bailey faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and child abuse.
