A woman, identified as Morena Valladares, told Local 10 News reporter Liane Morejon in Spanish that she believes her son, Evan Valladares, is the man behind the incident.

She said Evan Valladares and his friend wanted to "build some sort of temple" inside the vacant home.

A neighbor said the home was recently purchased and the new homeowner went inside to find someone who wasn't supposed to be there.

Police said the suspect may suffer from an unknown mental illness, but Morena Valladares said her son is not on any medications and has not been diagnosed with any mental illness.

Authorities said the suspect was taken to Jackson South Community Hospital.

No other details were immediately released.
