MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Multiple injuries were reported after a head-on collision on the 7 Mile Bridge, authorities said Monday.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office officials said five people were injured in the crash involving a white Ford Mustang and a red SUV near Mile Marker 41.
Authorities said U.S. 1 was closed for more than an hour as Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, as well as firefighters and paramedics, worked the scene. All lanes have since reopened.
According to Sherriff's Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, three of the victims were taken to the Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit hangar in Marathon, where they were airlifted to a Miami hospital.
