MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An aspiring firefighter was holding his 22-month-old son outside of his home when he was fatally shot Monday night, Miami Gardens police said.

Gunmen shot at Darin Williams and his son about 8:50 p.m., in the residential area near Crestview Elementary School. Doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital pronounced Williams dead. His son survived.

Officer Carlos Austin, a spokesman for the Miami Gardens Police Department, said the toddler was in stable condition.

Austin said detectives are searching for four gunmen who were in a dark-colored sedan with tinted windows and a paper tag.

On Tuesday, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan increased the existing reward to $13,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the gunman.

Detectives asked anyone with information to call Detective H. Schneider at 305-474-6473 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
