Wild video shows woman take off with baby in carrier after crashing car in chase

Caitlyn Rodriguez, 29, charged in high-speed chase

SAN ANTONIO – Newly released Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter video shows a woman leading troopers on a high-speed chase, crashing, then taking off on foot while holding her infant in a baby carrier before trying to carjack a woman.

The incident happened June 15 along Highway 90 near Lackland Air Force Base. Troopers said the woman, identified as 29-year-old Caitlyn Rodriguez, was wanted on warrants and drove off after they attempted to stop her.

In the video, Rodriguez is seen traveling over 100 mph down Highway 90 before rear ending a pickup that was stopped at a red light. Rodriguez then gets out of the Mercedes SUV, grabs a child carrier holding her infant and begins running from authorities.

The video shows Rodriguez running through traffic before, according to troopers, trying to carjack a woman who also had a child in their car. A trooper then parks his vehicle in front of the car Rodriguez allegedly tried to steal and draws his weapon and points it at the car, directing the driver to unlock her door.

The driver of the car gets out and runs to the back seat of her SUV where she tries to take a child out of the car.

Authorities eventually get the driver, the infant in the carrier and the child in the back seat of the car Rodriguez allegedly tried to steal to safety.

Troopers pulled Rodriguez out of the car and restrained her. She was charged with child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.

Her baby was turned over to Child Protective Services and she has remained behind bars since the high-speed chase.
