HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A murder suspect was fatally shot Wednesday morning as authorities were executing a search warrant at a home in Hollywood, police confirmed.
Hollywood police said the Miami Police Department requested their assistance with the execution of the warrant in the area of Southwest 57th Avenue and Flagler Street.
People who live in the area told Local 10 News reporter Ian Margol that they heard two loud bangs and then saw officers all over the neighborhood.
Hollywood Fire Rescue officials said the suspect, later identified by police as James Leatherwood, 23, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at the hospital, Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said.
Miami police said the suspect was wanted in connection with the murder of Netrievae M. White.
Authorities said White, 27, was shot the night of Aug. 23 in the area of Northwest 16th Avenue and 42nd Street.
Police said White was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he died.
