Woman struck, killed while walking grandson to school in Miramar

13-year-old boy 'feeling sad' after grandmother fatally struck by car

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A grandmother who was struck by a car early Tuesday while walking her grandson to school has died of her injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police a white Chrysler 300 ran a red light at Miramar Parkway and Fairmont Avenue about 9 a.m. and struck Marie St. Vil, 79, and her 13-year-old grandson, Edwin St. Vil, as they were crossing the parkway using the crosswalk.

Paramedics took Vil and Edwin to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Vil died a short time later, police said.

Edwin said he suffered a broken foot, along with bumps and bruises.

"I'm feeling sad about her. Now she's dead, and I won't see her ever again," Edwin told Local 10 News reporter Christian De La Rosa.

The driver stayed at the scene after the crash, police said.

A view from Sky 10 after the crash showed the Chrysler with front-end damage.

Police said charges were pending.
