1 killed, 2 injured in Young Circle crash

Crash happened early Monday near Hollywood Boulevard and North 17th Avenue

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – One person was killed and two others were hurt early Monday in a crash early at Young Circle in Hollywood.

The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. near Hollywood Boulevard and North 17th Avenue.

A red car came to a rest on the sidewalk near Walgreens and the Ultimate Pet Grooming & Spa in the area.

"I feel horribly sad -- horribly sad, because this should not happen," nearby resident Inka Halina Czernichowska said.

Police said the car was traveling west on Hollywood Boulevard, likely too fast, when it flew off the road and hit the building.

Crews removed the body of a passenger, identified only as a 24-year-old man.

The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said another passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police were seen taking photos of the damage and removing a bag of evidence.

After the car was towed, police re-opened the road.

Residents told Local 10 News this isn't the first crash at the corner.

"A year or so ago, I think it was a kid that drove from the beach from his girlfriend's, and they drove right into the pet store," Donovan Stewart said.

"It is like every few months we have some accident here, deadly or semi-deadly," Czernichowska said.

Czernichowska said she plans to move in two weeks because of the numerous accidents in the area, as well as the violence.

"I'm moving because it's very dangerous here. Very dangerous," she said.

Police said it's unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
