MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Police are investigating after a man and a woman were found shot to detah Thursday morning in Miami Lakes.
Miami-Dade police said the bodies were discovered by a neighbor who heard gunshots at an apartment complex in the area of New Barn Road and Main Street.
Residents and employees at the Main Street Shops were stunned to hear about the shooting.
"I know there is a couple living there -- very young people," Christina Diaz said.
According to Detective Christopher Thomas, the Town of Miami Lakes received a call from neighbors, saying a man was unconscious and bleeding.
Police arrived at the scene to find the man's body near the front door of the apartment. The woman was also found unconscious further inside the apartment, authorities said.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released the victims' identities, but said the man was in his mid-20s and the woman was in her mid-30s. Their relationship to one another is unclear.
Police said the man lived at the apartment.
"It does appear that someone did this to these two individuals," Thomas said.
As investigators gathered evidence from the apartment that was covered with a yellow tarp, those nearby who learned of the tragedy are hoping clues will help catch the killer.
"They are very young. It is very sad," Diaz said.
Anyone with further information about the case is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
