Woman riding scooter dies after crash in South Beach

Stretch of Alton Road closed during crash investigation

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A 33-year-old woman who was riding a scooter died after a bus ran her over Thursday afternoon in South Beach. 

Miami Beach Fire Rescue Chief Jorge Linares said paramedics took the woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead.

After the crash on Alton Road, between 16th Street and Lincoln Road, the woman's purple and black helmet were on the road. A pool of blood was feet away from Lokum Mediterranean Bar and Grill and other open businesses. 

Officers were asking drivers to use West Avenue as an alternate route during the crash investigation. Miami Beach police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said the roadway reopened about 10:30 p.m.
