Police seek man who tried to break into home with paving stone

Would-be burglar caught on home's security camera

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. ā€“ Miami Shores police are searching for a man they said was captured on surveillance video trying to break into a home over the weekend.

The incident occurred between 3:15 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Northeast 93rd Street.

Since they were away, George Paul and his family had no idea the prowler picked their property Saturday afternoon. They came home to find the mess and signs of the near break-in.

"He took (a paving stone) and he smashed it against the window," Paul said of the prowler.

The man tried not once, but twice, in a failed attempt to get inside the home.

Luckily for Paul, his hurricane-strengthened windows put up quite a fight although the windows shattered and were temporarily boarded up Monday. His alarm system actually saved the day.

"You see the hit from the brick triggered the house alarm and outdoor sirens," Paul said. "When he heard that, he took off. His bike was parked here and rolled off down the street."

But the would-be thief left behind a mess, his fingerprints and clear images of his face, which the Paul family wants off the street, sooner than later.

"It's unfortunate. My wife, she's all a little antsy, a little jittery," Paul said.

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call Detective Zalonis at 305-759-2468 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
