MIAMI – A man is in custody after two women were found dead Tuesday night inside a high-rise condominium building in Miami, authorities confirmed.
According to Miami police spokesman Orlando Rodriguez, the bodies were discovered around 9:30 p.m. inside one of the units at the Paraiso Bay Condominiums at 650 NE 32nd St.
Police said they were asked to conduct a well-being check at the unit by officials with Homeland Security Investigations.
When officers entered the unit, they found that both women had been stabbed to death, authorities said.
"I am in shock. Like, I don't even know how to react," Brenda Montelier, who lives in the building, said. "They just moved in about two weeks ago."
Montelier said she watched as detectives worked through the night gathering evidence from the condo.
Outside the building, crime scene technicians with the Miami Police Department spent the day working to find out what led up to the deaths.
While police said one person has been taken into custody, there is still no word on what charges that person will be facing and their identity has not been publically released.
The death investigation is concerning for some.
"It is very scary because once you are in the apartment, what are you going to do?" Montelier said.
But for some other residents, they are waiting for more information about the case before determining if there is a real threat.
"It is sad. Two women lost their lives, but we don't know how though. So we really can't make a judgement off not knowing what happened yet," a resident identified only as Maggie said.
Police did confirm Wednesday that the victims had been stabbed and said they believe this was an isolated incident.
