MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot to death Tuesday near the Golden Glades Interchange.

Miami-Dade police said the fatal shooting occurred on Northwest 152nd Street near Fifth Avenue.

A view from Sky 10 showed a body covered by a yellow tarp.

"It just sounded like fire crackers," Vanessa Segera, who lives nearby, said. "I heard one and then I heard pop, pop, pop."

Officers in full tactical gear surrounded a home on Northwest 146th Street. They had their guns drawn and then appeared to be walking away from the home.

The search for the shooter forced area schools to be placed on lockdown. Miami-Dade County Schools police officers surrounded both Biscayne Gardens Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson Middle School as a precaution.

Yaser Qureshi, 31, was fatally shot May 21 near the Golden Glades Interchange, authorities said.

"Cars be zipping up and down the street. You got all kinds of people walking around here," Segera said.

Residents who spoke with Local 10 News reporter Roy Ramos said they are aware of the criminal activity in the neighborhood, but with a killer on the loose, they are taking extra precautions to stay safe.

"I am scared to walk my dog at night," Segera said.

The victim was identified Wednesday as Yaser Qureshi, 31.

Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to call Detective D. Aiken at 305-471-2400. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
