PLANTATION, Fla. – A man shot and killed his wife early Saturday in Plantation, setting off an hourslong standoff with police, authorities said.
Brandon Ngo, 51, faces a charge of first-degree murder.
In an email, a friend of the victim identified her as Jade Nguyen. According to the friend, a divorce between Ngo and Nguyen was finalized on Tuesday.
A GoFundMe account has also been set up to help with funeral expenses and a memorial is being planned for Nguyen at 6 p.m. Monday at Contour Day Spa in Plantation, where Nguyen worked.
"Her impact is just everyone wants to support her and do whatever they can to kind of change this for another woman, so I think that's the coming together," spa director Robert Allen said Monday. "The emotions are absolutely insane over the last few days. Her clients just coming in to see what they can do -- 'What can I do? What can I do?' So, she touched many, many souls in a very gentle and quiet way."
Ngo eventually surrendered to officers at an apartment complex in the 8700 block of Northwest Fourth Court, a spokesperson for the Plantation Police Department said.
At the complex, a window was cracked from what appears to be a bullet hole.
Neighbors told Local 10’s Parker Branton that the two were polite and didn’t cause any problems before.
"I'd see him every day and say, 'Hi and bye.' He seems like a good guy. He just comes and goes to work. I never hear anything from him," a neighbor said.
Ngo appeared in court Sunday, when a judge ruled that he be held without bond at Broward County's main jail in Fort Lauderdale.
