Man, woman in stolen van arrested following chase on I-95, Miami-Dade police say

Cellphone video shows officer pointing gun at woman's head

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man and a woman were arrested Thursday after a chase involving a stolen van led to a Miami-Dade police officer getting injured, authorities said.

Police said Northside officers spotted the stolen white van shortly after 6 p.m. and it eventually started heading north on Interstate 95.

Police said the man driving the van refused to stop.

According to authorities, the van got caught up in rush hour traffic, so the driver, identified as David Brogdon, 35, of Miami Gardens, got out and started running between Northwest 95th Street and 81st Street.

David Brogdon, 35, is accused of stealing a van in Miami and leading police on a chase through northwest Miami-Dade.

Police said officers ran after the man and a vehicle that wasn't involved in the chase struck one of the officers.

Authorities said the injured officer continued chasing the suspect, who was taken into custody a short time later.

A woman who was a passenger inside the van was also arrested, police confirmed.

"Yo, I didn't even know that guy," the woman, identified as Angela Pond, 43, is heard telling another person in the video shortly before she is approached by the officer.

"Get on the ground! Get on the f***ing ground!" the officer is heard yelling at the woman, who then put her hands up.

"What did I do?" Pond asked the officer.

Angela Pond, 43, was arrested June 27 on charges of trespassing and resisting an officer without violence.

Police said the driver who accidentally struck one of the officers with his or her vehicle stayed at the scene and was not issued a citation.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Authorities said the van involved in the chase had been reported stolen in Miami.

Brogdon faces charges of grand theft of a vehicle, burglary and resisting an officer without violence. Pond, who police said is homeless, faces charges of trespassing and resisting an officer without violence.

Pond has since been released from jail, while Brogdon remains at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
