Police in Pembroke Pines searching for prisoner who escaped psychiatric hospital

John Ireland has history of violence

John Ireland, 33, escaped from South Florida State Hospital.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Authorities in Broward County are searching for an escaped prisoner. 

Pembroke Pines police warned residents to be on the lookout for John Ireland. 

Ireland, 33, was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants. 

Police said Ireland escaped from South Florida State Hospital, which is a psychiatric hospital.

Ireland has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, in addition to having a history of violence, police said. 

An investigation revealed that Ireland escaped the facility about 4 p.m. Wednesday after he climbed over an exterior fence. 

Officers want anyone who thinks they might see Ireland to stay away from him and call 911 immediately.
