Woman dies after being pulled from submerged car in waters off Bay Harbor Islands

Rescue divers pull woman from water in Miami-Dade

BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, Fla. – Rescue workers rushed into action after a car went into the water near Bay Harbor Islands.

Officials say a woman was taken to the hospital after divers assisted in removing her from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead soon after arriving.

The incident happened off Broadview Drive near 103rd Street late Wednesday morning.

Michael Hernandez says he was working nearby when he saw the white Audi A4 sped off the roadway, across a grass lot and into the water.

"When I heard the commotion I came running over here and the car was already in the water," Hernandez said. "She was coming down the road and right after maybe the solid yellow lines, it just seemed like she turned just a little bit and gunned it."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the woman was taken to Aventura Hospital Trauma Center.

Images from Sky 10 show her arriving at the hospital in a rescue helicopter.

Eventually the vehicle was pulled out of the water as the death investigation began.

According to Miami-Dade police, the victim was last seen by a caretaker at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Now police are trying to piece together what happened in the hours since that led to the victim ending up in the water.
