Pembroke Pines police officer injured when collision sends cruiser into light pole

Officer Heath Wagner, driver of minivan taken to Memorial Regional Hospital

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A Pembroke Pines police officer was injured Tuesday morning when a minivan collided with the officer's cruiser, sending it into a light pole.

The collision occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at Pines Boulevard and Southwest 96th Avenue.

Pembroke Pines police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell said the 78-year-old driver of the minivan was traveling west on Pines Boulevard and attempting to turn onto Southwest 96th Avenue when the minivan collided with Officer Heath Wagner's cruiser.

The impact sent Wagner's cruiser into the concrete light pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Both drivers were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood to be treated for their injuries.

Conwell said Wagner is expected to be OK. The minivan driver's name and condition haven't been released.
