Man ambushed, shot to death at Cutler Bay home

Police say shooter waited for 31-year-old victim to get home

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – A 31-year-old man was ambushed and shot to death at a Cutler Bay home Tuesday night, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. at a home on Southwest 99th Avenue.

Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said a preliminary investigation revealed that the shooter waited outside the home until someone arrived.

Once Daniel Macko opened the front door, he was ambushed, forced inside the home and fatally shot.

"Three gunshots, that's what I heard," neighbor Ana Lorenzo told Local 10 News.

Zabaleta said the shooter took several items and fled in a black Dodge van that may have been used in another robbery.

The van may have been stolen from a home approximately 10 miles away, as a vehicle matching that description was reported stolen by Luis Molina.

Police are still searching for the shooter.

Wednesday evening, Macko's family released the following statement:

"We are reeling from the loss of our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Daniel, known to all who love him as Elijah, leaves behind a wife and three young children who are absolutely devastated by this.

"We ask anyone who saw something or has any information about the murderers who took his life - please come forward. His children - his entire family - deserve the solace of knowing those who committed this evil act will face justice."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).

The family set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses and support his wife and children, which can be found by clicking here
