$40 million in cocaine unloaded at Port Everglades

Total Coast Guard busts this week net $80 million

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard unloaded about $40 million worth of cocaine at Port Everglades on Friday.

Authorities carried out two interdictions earlier this month in the Caribbean Sea, netting 41 packages of cocaine. They also arrested three smuggling suspects.

"Now as a total, district 7 has brought in $80 million worth of cocaine this week alone," said Meaghan Gies with the Coast Guard.

Drugs were also unloaded at ports in Tampa and Puerto Rico.
