Body found on boat in Biscayne Bay

Boat anchored in water near Northeast 172nd Street

A body was found on a boat Monday afternoon in Biscayne Bay.

Sky 10 was above the boat, which was anchored in the water near Northeast 172nd Street. There was a small boat tied to its side.

The body appeared to be badly decomposed.

North Miami Beach police received a 911 call about 3 p.m. after people who work nearby noticed a man lying on the boat's deck.

"I heard somebody say the guy's been laying in the same spot since 8 in the morning," a man who called 911 told Local 10 News reporter Amy Viteri.

The boat was anchored near the Marina Palms Yacht Club & Residences.

"This is currently a construction site, which two buildings are being built," Sgt. Jason Ochoa said. "The vessel was about 200 feet away from the south tower."

Ochoa said investigators don't know how the man died and haven't ruled out foul play.

The 911 caller, who only identified himself as James, said it appeared that the body had been burned.

"It looked like the body had been there for a couple days," he said.

Ochoa said there was also fire damage to the boat's cabin.
