Body found on Don Shula Expressway in southwest Miami-Dade

Woman's body taken to medical examiner's office to determine cause of death

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A death investigation is underway after Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they found a body near Florida's Turnpike on the Don Shula Expressway early Tuesday morning.

The victim, identified only as a woman, did not appear to be hit by a car and was found dead on the highway, authorities said. It's unclear how the body ended up there.

Sky 10 was over the scene Tuesday morning as the ramp connecting the northbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike to the Don Shula Expressway was shut down during the investigation.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Troopers said the woman had a laceration to the back of her head, but had no obvious signs that she had been run over or jumped to her death.

They said her shirt was still tucked into her pants and a sweater was tied around her waist.

The body was taken to the medical examiner's officer to determine a cause of death.

If ruled a homicide, Miami-Dade police will take over the investigation.
