BSO: Shooting suspect turns self in

Adiel Jaramillo shot, killed Michael Cornelio

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - A 20-year-old convicted felon accused of accidentally shooting and killing his 19-year-old friend turned himself into police, according Broward Sheriff's Office.

Adiel Jaramillo arrived at the Public Safety Building with his lawyer Wednesday evening. He was charged with manslaughter, according to BSO.

Jaramillo shot Michael Cornelio while inside an apartment at 428 SW 2nd Place in Pompano Beach on April 19, according to investigators. Cornelio was pronounced dead when police arrived.

Cornelio's family spoke Wednesday afternoon before Jaramillo turned himself into police.

"I can't explain the pain and hurt and anger that I'm feeling," said Helen Cornelio, the victim's mother. "It didn't have to happen, I didn't have to lose my son."

Investigators believe Jaramillo was showing off the handgun when it fired.

"The gun went off. The suspect then tried to conceal his identity by wiping the gun clean and dropping the gun at the scene and then fled on foot," said Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Steve Feely.

"We never met him. He wasn't someone who came over to our house," said Vinny Cornelio, the victim's father.
