Coast Guard suspends search for Georgia man who fell from cruise ship

Reco Scott reported missing after falling from cruise ship Friday near Bahamas

MIAMI ā€“ The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Saturday for a Georgia man who fell overboard off a cruise ship near the Bahamas.

A Coast Guard news release said the search for Reco Scott, 32, of Decatur, Georgia, was called off shortly before 6 p.m.

Scott was reported missing after falling from the ninth deck of the Carnival Liberty cruise ship early Friday morning near the Berry Islands.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mr. Scott during this extremely difficult time," Christopher Eddy, search and rescue mission coordinator for the Coast Guard's Seventh District, said. "Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make, and it is made with great care and consideration."

The Coast Guard searched for more than 29 hours, spanning 1,064 square miles.
