3 arrested on drug trafficking charges in Hollywood

Arrests latest in rash of drug busts in area, police say

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Neighbors in a Hollywood apartment complex are breathing a sigh of relief after Hollywood police made a major drug bust last week in the apartments.

Broken glass, the plunger from a hypodermic needle and pieces of what looks like a pipe are all that's left of what police are saying was an investigation to bust a drug dealing operation going on inside of the apartments.

"It was like different people back and forth, back and forth, you know?" Linda Lescamela, who lives in the neighborhood, said.

Lescamela lives in the back of the apartment complex and said the drug deals happened daily.

"I didn't have my kids come here for a long time because all of that was going on," she said.

Police said Don Thurston, 34, and Antonio Brown were arrested Thursday after being found with heroin. A third neighbor, Emmanuel Steed, was also arrested when he was found with cocaine and marijuana, police said.

All three are facing charges for allegedly dealing drugs. Authorities said the apartment complex is less than 1,000 feet from Avant Garde Academy at 2025 McKinley St. Frank Bolaños is the co-founder of the school.

"It's a shame, but at the same time it's a sigh of relief that these bad guys were caught," Bolaños said.

In addition to the drugs, officers said they also found three airsoft guns and drug paraphernalia.

The drug bust was the latest in a rash of drug arrests in the area.
