MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. - Six teenagers were shot over the weekend at a party in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
The shooting was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home near Southwest 205th Street and 119th Avenue.
Police said there was an altercation at the party that led to the shooting, which injured six minors.
Neighbors told Local 10 News reporter Hatzel Vela that the victims were at the home for a Sweet 16. A flyer for the party on Facebook said that the celebration was for Travisha. On the bottom of the invite it said to "leave the drama at home."
"I heard the DJ started screaming and I said, 'You know what, this is not fireworks anymore," Anthony Thomas said. "It's like several rounds. First round was like six times then came another round after that."
Four people were taken to Jackson South Community Hospital, one was taken to Baptist Hospital and one was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center.
"Waking up with agonizing pain over the gun violence that continues to victimize our youth," Miami-Dade Public Schools superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted Sunday. "Thoughts are with latest victims & their families."
Carvalho said the victims ranged in age from 13 to 17.
The conditions of the victims have not been released.
Neighbors said the woman who owns the home where the shooting happened has several children. They said one of her children was among the victims injured.
