Body found in van in Miami Gardens

Man found nearby with gunshot wounds, authorities say

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A body was found inside a van Monday in Miami Gardens and another person was found nearby with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said one victim was found in the area of Northwest 39th Avenue and 167th Street. The man was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert.

Meanwhile, authorities blocked off the area of Northwest 42nd Avenue and 167th Terrace after a body was found inside a van.

Miami Gardens police later confirmed that the victim, who was working in the area, had been shot once inside his van. He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1:15 p.m.

An Economy Food Store and U-Gas station were also blocked off during the investigation.

"I was coming to my church and I saw the policemen, so I got out of my car. My first response to the officers was, 'Are you OK?' You know, I'm concerned for all souls," Dr. Marty Glenn Davis said.

It's unclear whether the crime scenes were related.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Miami Gardens police at 305-474-6473 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
