Police said in a news release that he was taken into custody "without incident" and did not suffer life-threatening injuries from cutting himself.

According to authorities, Harrison attacked his wife Sunday morning with burning water while she was in bed.

Police said the victim pleaded with her husband to take her to a hospital and he agreed.

However, once inside the vehicle, Harrison drove around to unknown locations along U.S. Highway 27.

He eventually pulled over and picked up bottles from the brush along the side of the road, police said.

Authorities said he broke the bottles and cut both of his arms.

Harrison then got back into his car and took his wife back home after about an hour or two of driving, authorities said.

The victim called police just before 1 p.m. after she was able to escape and call 911 from a neighbor's home.

Police said she was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.
