Police arrest father claiming to have 'relapsed' with heroin

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – As authorities deal with a heroin epidemic, police arrested two men and a pregnant woman accused of doing heroin with a toddler in the car.

Detectives from the Dania Beach crime suppression team were doing surveillance outside of a 7-Eleven,  4800 South State Road 7, in Hollywood.

Robert Vincent Bonaiuto, Jr. was driving a black Ford Expedition when police said he parked on the side of the building about 7:30 p.m., Monday.

Police said Bonauito was with a man, who was seating in the passenger's side of the SUV, and a pregnant woman, who was in the back seat next to his 3-year-old daughter. They were snorting heroin with a straw, police said.

When police asked Bonaiuto to get out of the car, he allegedly said, "I can get you guys whatever you need. I just don't want to go to jail.

"Man, I relapsed and started using heroin again."

He was being honest. Police said they found heroin in the driver side door handle and in a bottle of Advil. The woman -- whom police said was four months pregnant with twins --  wasn't the little girl's mom.

Police didn't identify the passenger or the woman, but they said they called the girl's mother, who has custody of the child.

Bonaiuto faces charges of neglecting a child without great bodily harm and possession of heroin, records show.
