Man robs store, carjacks victim outside Fort Lauderdale business, police say

Incident reported Thursday at Stop Fast Food Store

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police are searching for a man who they said committed an armed robbery at a store before carjacking someone outside the business.

The incident was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stop Fast Food Store at 1417 N. Dixie Highway.

Police said a man armed with a silver revolver entered the store and demanded cash from a clerk.

Surveillance video shows the man holding the gun to the clerk's head.

"He said, 'Sit, sit,'" the clerk, Mohammed Shah Alam, said. "I am afraid."

Police said the clerk removed cash from the register drawer and handed it to the robber.

After leaving the business, the thief approached a man who was standing next to his car in the parking lot and told him to walk away from his vehicle, authorities said.

Police said the thief got into the victim's car and drove away.

The stolen vehicle was recovered a short time later in the 1600 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Michael Benson at 954-828-6561 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
