Man shot, killed defending elderly man cutting grass near convenience store

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A 57-year-old man was shot and killed Friday after he defended an elderly man who was being verbally abused in Pembroke Park.

Philip Antonino was walking back to his place of work at about 9 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Hallandale Beach Boulevard when he noticed a man cutting a lawn being yelled at, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The 57-year-old then stepped in to defend the stranger. Moments later, he was shot multiple times.

Antonino was taken to an area hospital after the shooting where he was pronounced dead, deputies said.

Meanwhile, the shooter fled on foot traveling northbound on West 56th Avenue and believed to have a thin build, be in his 30s, and about 5 foot 8 inches tall.

The shooter is bald and clean shaven, deputies said, and was last seen wearing black jeans and a long-sleeve black shirt with white text on it.
