DAVIE, Fla. - A man threw a cup of coffee at a woman's vehicle during a road rage incident and then spit in her face after she pulled over, authorities said.
The incident was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Davie.
According to an arrest report, the victim, Ashley Keene, 19, was driving east on Nova Drive toward Davie Road when another driver threw a cup of coffee at her car.
Police said the victim pulled into the McDonald's parking lot at 6405 Nova Drive and the suspect, identified as Christopher Watson, 44, followed her inside.
"I was sitting at the red light, and then as soon as it turned green, like, he started honking on his horn and he followed me, and then we were coming to a plaza and, like, I had a feeling that he was going to come yell at me or something," Keene said.
Police said a witness pulled out her cellphone when she saw Watson yelling at the victim through the driver's side window and began recording the altercation.
Authorities said the video shows Watson spitting in the victim's face.
"I rolled my windows down and we were both screaming at each other, and then, in the middle, he just literally just spits on my face," Keene said.
Keene got out of her car and punched Watson twice in the chest to keep him away from her, authorities said.
Police said Watson backed away from Keene, who called 911.
Officers said Watson claimed that Keene made a left turn in front of his vehicle, nearly causing an accident.
Police said he told them that the victim then braked multiple times, and he began to honk his horn at her.
According to the arrest report, Watson claimed that he followed the victim into the parking lot because he wanted to "talk to her," and then an argument ensued.
He said he did not recall spitting on the woman, the report stated.
But police said Watson called his wife regarding the incident in front of officers and told her, "I messed up and let my anger take over. I yelled at a girl and then spit on her."
Watson was arrested on a battery charge. He has since been released from jail.
Keene told Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan that she is grateful for the woman who recorded the incident.
"It makes me sick, like, watching him spit in my face," Keene said. "And, yeah, it could have went a whole lot differently."
