Masked gunman robs Dania Beach gas station, takes more than just cash

Crook walks out with handful of lighters during Sept. 8 robbery

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A thief who robbed a Dania Beach gas station last month wanted more than just money. He also wanted about a half-dozen disposable lighters.

The armed robbery at a Mobil gas station on Griffin Road was caught on surveillance video just before 3:30 a.m. Sept. 8.

Surveillance video released Monday by the Broward Sheriff's Office shows a Ford Explorer with silver chrome rims pull into the gas station. A masked man dressed in all black gets out of the front passenger seat, walks into the store and pulls out a gun.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said the crook cocked the gun, pointed it at the clerk and demanded the money in the registers.

Once he had the two register's cash drawers, the gunman grabbed a handful of lighters from a nearby display and walked out, getting into the waiting SUV.

A customer who was entering the store as the robber was walking out opened the door for the gunman.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call BSO detectives or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
