Miami-Dade police seek answers about 26-year-old man's killing

Guillermo Gonzalez fatally shot Sunday in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Guillermo Gonzalez was standing on his driveway Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on the 26-year-old.

He died on the spot.

"He didn't bother anybody exactly. I didn’t really get to know him. He probably moved in less than a year ago," Frank Urrera, a neighbor, said.

Neighbors say they heard Gonzalez's pregnant girlfriend screaming as she called police about 11:30 p.m. that night.

Officers showed up and roped off the area, but by that point the shooter was long gone.

"(There were) a lot of cars. The police, a lot of people," Cary Montes, a neighbor, recalled.

By Tuesday night, Miami-Dade homicide detectives returned to the crime scene in the 3000 block of Northwest 26th Street armed with informational flyers.

Detective Jose Toral spoke to residents, hoping that a critical clue that will crack this case is just  a door knock way.

"We're out here trying to get a hold of the community to see if anybody saw something heard something," Toral said. "No detail is too small."

A motive for the shooting is not yet known.

But it is known that Guillermo's children were inside of the home at the time of the shooting.

The shooting has become an unsettling crime for neighbors who still have a mountain of questions and concerns.

"It's pretty devastating how you can see the world and just go like that in a second," Urrera said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
