Miramar man found guilty in fatal shooting of FAU student

Donovan Henry implicated for role in December shooting near Boca Raton campus

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A 19-year-old Miramar man was found guilty Monday in the fatal shooting of a Florida Atlantic University student last December.

Donovan Henry was convicted of second-degree murder, armed robbery and armed burglary in the Dec. 29 shooting death of Nicholas Acosta at the University Park apartments near FAU's Boca Raton campus.

Police said Henry and four others planned to rob Acosta of his marijuana stash in a botched drug deal.

Rodrick Woods, Alexander Gillis and Adonis Gillis have also been arrested in connection with the crime.

Woods pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder in exchange for his testimony against the co-defendants.

Police said Alexander Gillis was the gunman who shot Acosta multiple times. He and cousin Adonis Gillis are awaiting trial for their roles in the crime.

Acosta's girlfriend testified during the trial that the suspects forced their way inside the apartment under the guise of a drug buy.

Henry, who testified that Alexander Gillis held him at gunpoint and forced him to take part in the crime, may not have pulled the trigger, but he faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced next month.
