Burglary suspect shot by police, another bitten by dog in North Miami Beach

Police say suspects apprehended while trying to get away

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A burglary suspect was shot by police and another was bitten by a police dog Monday morning in North Miami Beach, Miami-Dade police said.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the residents received an alarm notification about a burglary to their home near Northeast 151st Street and Northeast 13th Avenue.

"As police were responding, the homeowners were able to provide further assistance, informing the responding officers that the individuals were inside the house," ZabaletaĀ said.

Zabaleta said officers arrived and found the suspects trying to get away in a black sedan.

"The driver was struck in the upper extremity, and the passenger fled on foot," Zabaleta said.

Zabaleta said the second suspect was taken down by a police dog.

Both suspects,Ā DwanaunneĀ Williams, 20, and Olajuwon Baker, 33, were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

It wasn't immediately known how many shots were fired or why. The shooting remains under investigation.
