Man taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman shot her 24-year-old son Wednesday at her home in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The shooting was reported Wednesday morning in the 1300 block of Northwest 98th Terrace.

Police said the man was trying to force his way into the home when his mother shot him in the hip and shoulder.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he underwent surgery. His condition has not been released.

It's unclear whether the victim's mother, who is a federal corrections officer, will face charges.

"We are investigating everybody on the scene to determine what happened," Miami-Dade police Maj. Ignacio Alvarez said.

The mother's and son's identities have not been released.
